Terms of Service

What This Service Is

PAI Coaching is an AI-powered personal coaching tool. It helps you reflect on your goals, habits, and progress through structured check-ins and conversations.

PAI Coaching is NOT therapy, counseling, psychiatric treatment, or medical advice. It does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or replace any licensed professional. The coaching techniques used — including reflective questioning, goal-setting, and reframing — are general wellness practices, not clinical interventions.

If you need therapy, counseling, or psychiatric care, please work with a licensed professional.

Not an Emergency Service

PAI Coaching does not monitor for crisis situations and is not equipped to provide emergency assistance. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, thoughts of self-harm, or harm to others:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
  • Emergency services: Call 911

You agree that you will seek immediate professional help if you experience a mental health emergency, and that you will not rely on PAI Coaching in such situations.

Who Can Use This Service

You must be at least 18 years old to use PAI Coaching. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older.

Your Account

You create an account using a passkey tied to your email address. You are responsible for maintaining access to your passkey and the device it is registered on. You should not share your account with others.

How AI Works in This Service

PAI Coaching uses artificial intelligence (currently Anthropic's Claude) to generate coaching responses. You should know:

  • AI responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate for your situation
  • The AI does not understand your life the way a human coach or therapist would
  • PAI Coaching does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or suitability of any AI-generated content
  • You are responsible for evaluating and acting on any information the AI provides

Always use your own judgment.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use PAI Coaching for personal wellness and coaching purposes. You agree NOT to:

  • Use the service as a substitute for professional medical or mental health treatment
  • Share harmful, illegal, or abusive content through the service
  • Attempt to manipulate the AI to produce harmful content
  • Use the service on behalf of another person without their knowledge
  • Reverse-engineer the AI prompts or coaching methodology for commercial use

Open Source Code vs. Hosted Service

PAI Coaching's source code is available under an open-source license. The open-source codebase and this hosted service are separate things.

This hosted service includes infrastructure, data storage, AI API access, and maintenance that are not part of the open-source code. These Terms of Service apply only to this hosted service.

If you self-host PAI Coaching using the open-source code, you are solely responsible for your deployment — including data security, crisis resources, compliance with applicable laws, and maintaining a visible 988 crisis banner.

Your Data

You own the content you create in PAI Coaching — your check-ins, thoughts, goals, and personal data. We store it to provide the service to you. See our Privacy Policy for details on what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Account Termination and Data Deletion

You may stop using PAI Coaching at any time. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us. We will delete your data within 30 days of your request.

We may terminate your account if you violate these terms, particularly the acceptable use provisions above.

Paid Tiers

PAI Coaching offers both free and paid subscription tiers. If you subscribe to a paid tier:

  • Billing is handled through Stripe. We do not store your payment card information.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
  • Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Limitation of Liability

PAI Coaching is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI responses will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PAI Coaching and its creator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to damages arising from:

  • Acting on AI-generated coaching suggestions
  • Reliance on the service for mental health support
  • Data loss or service interruptions

Our total liability for any claim arising from the service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States.
